Fire Safety Visit!

What an AMAZING morning we had on Monday! We could not have been more excitable and ecstatic about being able to experience a fire engine and test our knowledge on the Great Fire of London.

We cannot thank Chris and Louise from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service enough for the incredible experience they provided for us. Not only were we able to learn all about fire safety and experience Miss Hedley in a fireman’s outfit, but we got to try on our own fire jackets and helmets. They even allowed us to climb up into the cab of the fire engine and explore the helmets and gas masks that were stored inside. The best bit though and I think all children will agree with this, has got to be when each of them got to use the fire hose and experience the force of the water washing all the teachers cars!

What an incredible experience that none of us will be forgetting anytime soon!

Look Who Got Caught Reading!

Hello all!

I would like to introduce you to one of our classroom displays. It’s very bare at the moment because I have not told anyone about it, but here I am to tell you the reason behind it.

I would like to encourage the class to read more, whether it’s at home or at school. We have introduced ERIC time (Everybody reading in class) after break and the children are sitting down with their fruit and reading independently, whilst we go around and try to listen to them read or work on changing their books!

The ‘Look Who Got Caught Reading’ display is something to encourage the class to read more at home. This is where you as parents and carers come in! If at any time you spot your child reading at home, in the garden, with friends, or even to their siblings and other family members, I’d like you, if possible, to snap a picture of them and send it in to admin@kemble.gloucs.sch.uk with the subject of ‘Beech caught reading’. I will then print out their photograph and hang it on our display, just like I have done with Mrs Dougill!

This is just a bit of fun to hopefully inspire a love of reading in the class!

Our Owl Babies

Hello again,
20180920_162651

Beech class would like to introduce you to our two new classmates. We now have two owls that spend their time between Beech class and the homes of the children in our class. Some parents/carers may already recognise these owls, as they have already gone home with six very lucky children.

You must be asking; how is it you get the owl? Well let us explain; the owls are based on our school’s owl gems and they are given to the two children who are awarded the two owls of the week in our celebration assembly’s.

We ask that the children who take the owl’s home spend their weekends with them, taking photographs of what they get up too and if possible, write a small sentence about the owl’s experience with them. The photograph’s and sentences then go into our ‘Class Owl Book’ and we look at what the owls have been up to every Friday morning! This is very exciting for the children!

The owl’s will be coming home with children on a Friday and we do ask that they are returned by the following Thursday, so that they can go home with the two children awarded the owls the following week.

We look forward to seeing and reading all about your owl adventures!

Beech Class

Welcome back!

So, we are now officially three weeks into the school year and we have already done so much in Beech class! It has been tough for some children coming into a whole new classroom and doubling in the size of classmates, but also for some of the new year two’s becoming the eldest in the class.

We’ve got a lot of things to squeeze into this term and the next, but there’s lots of exciting opportunities for lots of learning and having fun whilst we do it! Our Topic until Christmas is The Great Fire of London and we have already completed a small fire safety training in our very first week back at school. However, we have another coming up soon, which is all very exciting! We are also learning all about seasons in Science and creating artwork based on both our Science and our Topic work. We are hoping to get some of this work up on here when possible!

But for now, here are a few images of what we have been getting up to in Maths, we will put even more photos up soon, but for now, enjoy!
