The children had a fantastic time at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery where they discovered dinosaurs.
During the workshop the children:
. Learnt about the job of dinosaur scientists and their tools
. Found out about Mary Anning and her amazing fossil finds
. Handled fossil evidence of Jurassic sea creatures living during the time of the dinosaurs
. Discovered what dinosaurs ate and how we know this
. Investigated the Bristol dinosaur and what the city was like millions of years ago
. Borrowed a story book bag to take into our dinosaur gallery after their visit
Thank you to the KPG who contributed towards the funding of this trip. The children had a great time!
Homework
We will be looking at money, addition and subtraction next week in maths. This will include the children handling money and looking at giving change. If at home you could let them go to the shop and buy something small and try to work out the change together, this would be good, so that they are able to get some real life experiences.

We are also looking at recounts in English (reading the book Farmer Duck). We will begin to plan and write our own recounts next week. If over the children get up to anything exciting, maybe they could write a sentence, or create a sentence and remember it (to tell me on Monday) in the style of a recount. Remembering that it has to be in past tense!
Again this is optional homework, just to help the children in their weekly maths and English lessons.

Practical Homework
Over the last week we have been looking at time, weight, position and direction in our maths lessons. We’ve looked at estimating which object was lighter or heavier, then we looked at balance scales, grams and kilograms.
The children really enjoyed looking at telling the time and found this game fun and engaging. Telling the Time game
Year 2’s were also looking at direction; left and right, clockwise and anti-clockwise.
If you could work with your children on these areas at home, play the game together, or discuss important times of the day (breakfast, lunchtime, bedtime, etc). Also helping them with their left and right and recognising it using their hands. Lots of practical activities with them to help there understanding of the subject.
We will be looking at ‘measure and data’ next week.

Forest School
Hello all,
Just a notice about this terms agenda, we are now doing forest school on a Wednesday afternoon, beginning this week, so if possible please provide your children will wellington boots. If this is not possible by tomorrow, they will have to wear their trainers/school shoes, however they will get muddy!
We are still having PE on a Thursday afternoon, so PE will need to be in ready for next Thursday (due to Science week we are not doing PE this Thursday).
Can we also ensure that children have a pair of trainers in school for the daily mile please. Having children running in their school shoes is building a lot of muddy walkways and carpets.
Science week is well underway and the children seem to be enjoying themselves, I’m sure they would love to tell you all about it, so please ask!
Christmas Blog
Hello all,
I hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas holiday and you’re excited to come back and start a whole new term!
I have just got round to looking at some of the photos that we were able to capture from our secret visit from Santa Claus during the last week of school! The children created some beautifully handwritten letters explaining all about their roles in the nativity and what they were most excited about for Christmas, (lots of them said how they couldn’t wait to spend time with family!).

I am just writing to let everyone know, I will not be handing out any weekly spellings homework until after Christmas.
If you could continue to work on the common exception words with your children (these were sent home in bookbags a few weeks ago – highlighted green for the words they still need to learn). I will be doing another test with the children on these words after Christmas and will send home another highlighted sheet to see how they have progressed.
I hope everyone enjoys the build up to Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all at the Nativity performances!

Science – Brilliant Builders
Hello all,
We had a wonderful day yesterday taking part in an investigatory walk around our school grounds to discuss and compare what materials the buildings, benches, etc, are made of. We then continued this discussion in the classroom as a class. Following this, in the afternoon the children took part in a class investigation.
We came up with the hypothesis “Hard materials cannot absorb water” – we wanted to investigate whether our hypothesis was true or false. After investigating a range of materials, we agreed on the statement “Most hard materials are not absorbent, but we found when testing wood, it absorbed a small amount of the water poured onto it.”
